액면분할 (aekmyeon bunhal)
Stock split
Reviewed October 15, 2026
Each share is split into several cheaper shares; the company's value doesn't change.
액면분할 (aekmyeon bunhal) is a stock split: the par value of each share is divided, so each shareholder gets several new shares for each old one and the price per share falls by the same factor.
Trading usually stops for a few days while the new shares are issued. Samsung Electronics split its shares 50-for-1 in 2018. The opposite, merging shares into fewer, is 액면병합 (a reverse split).
Also called: share split · 액면병합 (reverse split)
