Preferred shares
Reviewed October 15, 2026
A second class of shares, usually without voting rights but with a slightly higher dividend.
우선주 (useonju) are preferred shares. In Korea they usually have no voting rights at shareholders' meetings and in return get a somewhat higher dividend than the common shares (보통주).
Preferred shares trade under their own code, usually the common share's code ending in 5 instead of 0. Samsung Electronics' common shares are 005930 and its preferred shares 005935. They often trade at a discount to the common shares.
