사이드카 (saideuka)

Sidecar (program trading pause)

Reviewed October 15, 2026

A five-minute pause on computer program trading when index futures move sharply.

A sidecar (사이드카) pauses program trading (orders placed automatically by computer programs, such as index arbitrage) for five minutes when index futures move sharply: for KOSPI, when KOSPI 200 futures move 5% from the previous close for one minute.

Ordinary buying and selling continues. A sidecar can be triggered at most once a day per market. It is a milder step than a circuit breaker.
