상한가 (sanghanga)

Upper price limit (limit up)

Reviewed October 15, 2026

The highest price a stock can reach in one day: 30% above the previous close.

상한가 (sanghanga) is the upper daily price limit. On KOSPI and KOSDAQ a stock can rise at most 30% from the previous day's close in one trading day. A stock that closes at that price "hit the upper limit".

The limit was widened from 15% to 30% in June 2015. Stocks on their first day of trading after listing follow different rules.
